Planet wars 2 is not quite finished, but is most definitely playable. It fixes a lot of the problems with the original Planet Wars and has a massively improved world generator.

I wrote a whole animation system for this game, and it shows - it's probably the most polished looking game I've written.

A working online multiplayer version of Planet Wars 2 was in the works, and should be revived now I've finished my degree (summer 2012)!
